The Power of Self-Love

If you ever wondered what the key to happiness is, it’s self-love. Self-love is, “regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.” The ability to put time and energy into yourself, is not as easy as it may seem. The journey to loving yourself fully is emotional, tiring, but most importantly, rewarding. Now, I am not a self-love expert, but I will share with you a few tips and tricks that helped me get to where I am today.

Tip #1: Identify Your Stressors

Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint exactly what or who stresses you out. However, it's so important to understand that eliminating or at least minimizing your engagement with these stressors will allow you to discover more of yourself. When I first started my journey, I didn't know that certain people and lifestyle choices drained my energy until I removed a few friends and changed my diet. It wasn’t until this change; I was able to discover more of who I am.

Tip #2: Remove Expectations from Others

Putting expectations on individuals that continue to show their true colors is a waste of time. They will continue to disappoint you, causing you to be upset and embarrassed. Protecting your heart, mind, and energy matters and for someone to show you they don’t care, is enough to walk away.

Tip #3: Move in Silence

Not everyone is going to be happy for you, it’s just life. Moving in silence allows you to be in control of your life and the news you share. Plus, you can’t surprise someone with news about your promotion if they already know about it. Just saying! I have always been the type of person to do my own thing and when I am ready to share with other, I will.

Tip #4: Put Yourself First

This sounds easy enough, right? It’s actually a bit more challenging than you think. If you’ve spent years catering to someone else’s needs, you’ve neglected your own. If you have spent so much of your time attending to someone else, you have not spent time with yourself. When you put yourself first, you can go and enjoy the activities you used to do. If you haven’t had time to treat yourself to a mani/pedi, this is your sign. Sometimes we get so caught up with school, work, relationships, friendships, and everyday life, that we don’t take a moment for ourselves.
